Professional Teaching Assistant Position in Humanity and Society (SPS 101/102) Course

We are looking for a professional teaching assistant for our mandatory freshmen course Humanity and Society (SPS 101-102). SPS is a two-semester course designed for interdisciplinary world history organized in thematic and chronological order. It is one of the mass courses given as a part of our Foundations Development Program in which active learning techniques and new online teaching technologies are used. 

The selection of the candidate and the range of duties assigned will be compatible with the requirements and the objectives of the course guaranteed by the possibility of a renewable contract.

Required general qualifications

Degree: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or Computer Sciences, preferably in Political Science, Computer Science, History or other related fields.

GPA: Qualified candidates’ cumulative grade point averages will be taken into consideration to evaluate their performance. Candidates with F (fail) grades on their transcript and/or candidates whose cumulative GPA is less than 3.00 (out of 4.00) will not be considered eligible.

English proficiency: Qualified candidates’ language scores will be taken into consideration and candidates with the highest scores will be prioritized.

Eligibility: Qualified candidates’ compatibility and skills with the respective needs of the SPS courses will be taken into consideration. Microsoft Office skills (particularly Excel), Google Workspace, familiarity with data analysis, experience on Moodle platforms, the ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously, good teamwork skills, and their potential to contribute to the designed format of the course will be evaluated. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Attending the weekly SPS colloquiums to follow course content
  • Organizing the course’s data spreadsheets regularly 
  • Importing and incorporating grades from the TopHat Dynamic Courseware Platform 
  • Preparing reports on the existing data of the courses 
  • Uploading and tracking of all sorts of course material, assignments, grades, student’s medical reports, and attendance to the Moodle platform (SUCourse) and organizing these regularly 
  • Being the contact person with the students in terms of all technical problems. 
  • Being in close communication with the course coordinators. 
  • Providing support to the logistics needs of the course and resolving the technical problems caused by Moodle in coordination with the IT department. 
  • Organizing the exam schedules, helping with exam logistics, and proctoring during midterm and make-up examinations in case of need 
  • Attending all training, orientation programs, and meetings designed for SPS teaching assistants. 
  • Assist with lecture recordings over Zoom, if necessary
