The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS) at Sabancı University invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Experimental Solid-State Physics and Functionalities. The position is expected to commence in the 2025-2026 academic year. Candidates with expertise in electronic, optical, or magnetic properties of materials and experience in related functional applications will be considered. An emphasis on state-of-the-art experimental techniques and solid-state functionality is a plus. Outstanding candidates from other innovative areas, such as AI and machine learning-driven materials research and discovery, will also be considered, especially those with strong expertise in leveraging artificial intelligence for materials design, discovery, and optimization. The preferred academic rank is at the Assistant Professor level, though applications at all ranks will be considered based on academic credentials and prior experience.
The Materials Science and Nano Engineering Program at Sabancı University offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees and maintains strong collaborations with Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SUNUM) as well as the Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Research and Application Center (SU IMC).
Responsibilities
Teaching:
Eligible candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to education in Materials Science and Nanotechnology and have the capability to teach core courses in Materials Science at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to develop and teach at least one specialized course focused on connecting material properties to electronic, optical, or magnetic device science and technology, enriching the current curriculum in the Program.
Research:
Successful applicants should demonstrate a strong track record of scholarly research in the field of electronic, optical, or magnetic properties of solid-state materials, with an emphasis on innovative functionalities across different material types and interfaces. The ideal candidate will be skilled in designing and conducting cutting-edge experimental studies. They will be expected to establish an independent, internationally recognized, and externally funded research program and cultivate a robust network of international collaborations.
Service:
Apart from teaching and research, the successful candidate is expected to undertake service and citizenship roles and contribute to the operation and promotion of the University as well as the profession.
Qualifications sought:
The minimum qualification for the posted position is a doctorate degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Materials Physics, Materials Chemistry or a related field, followed by a productive postdoctoral research period in a recognized institution.
