The Enthralling Adventure of Being An International Student
Hello! My name is Imaan Carrim and I am currently a Junior International Student studying at Sabanci University. Looking back to my senior year of high-school when I was in the midst of an intense and stressful period of having to choose a university, never did I ever imagine I would be studying in Istanbul, Turkey. However, the one thing I can guarantee having gone through the last 3 years of my life…it has been a constant adventure and there surely has never been a dull moment :)
Why I Chose Sabanci University?
Turkey never appeared on my radar during my early years of high-school as a potential destination for me to attend university at. A chance family vacation in the Summer of 2018 brought me to Istanbul for the first time. I was enjoying a serene boat ride around the beautiful Bosphorus when our tour guide pointed out a university that overlooked the water. I was intrigued and then began an interesting back and forth conversation with him inquiring about higher education in Turkey. I mean, Istanbul stole my heart. This city has history, heart, soul, culture, with endless stories on every corner. When I arrived back home after my vacation, I immediately went into researching universities in Turkey and became enraptured by the possibility of studying in the beautiful Istanbul. From looking at a quick online search, I found Sabanci as it was one of the highest ranked universities in Turkey. I found that they taught in English and I was further thrilled by the beautiful campus. A quick glance at their website provided me with all the necessary information regarding tuition fees, entry requirements, dorms, etc. So, without a second thought, I applied, mailed off my documents, and strapped myself into the adventurous journey of becoming an International Student at Sabanci University.
Majoring in Psychology
I have never been more sure of anything in my life than when it came to choosing Psychology as my major. It is interesting because that was one of the easiest choices when it came to the entire complex process of university. Sabanci University has an excellent Psychology program with flexibility and diversity when it comes to choosing courses. The Psychology Professors are also absolutely phenomenal at teaching; they have the ability to not just educate you on the topics but also to engage and interest the students within every class. There are also amazing opportunities to participate and be a part of real psychological research experiments which are supervised by some of the best researchers. Needless to say, there is always something new to learn or experience.
The Incredible Istanbul
One of the most amazing perks of studying at Sabanci University is getting to be based in Istanbul. This city will captivate you. There is so much to see, explore, experience, (and eat, haha). From Kadiköy to Taksim, from continent to continent, the hustle and bustle will never cease to amaze you. Weekends will never be dull again once you arrive in Istanbul because
