Full-Time Coordinator Position in Freshman World History Course
The Foundations Development Directorate (FDD) at Sabancı University invites applications for a full-time Visiting Instructor position at postdoctoral level to coordinate (and teach) the mandatory freshmen course Humanity and Society (SPS 101-102). Humanity and Society is a two-semester specially designed interdisciplinary world history course given as part of our Foundations Development Program in which active learning techniques are used. The contents of the course emphasize scientific critical and analytical thinking. Qualifications
The candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in History, Political Science, International Relations, Sociology, or related fields. Candidates who are nearly finished with their dissertation are also eligible for application, given that their Ph.D. defense schedule is set and documentable in writing. Preference will be given to candidates with collaborative work experience, familiarity with core-curriculum designs, and past teaching experience. High proficiency in English (speaking and writing) is a must, and documentation regarding qualified candidates’ language scores might be asked for.
Responsibilities
The coordinator’s workload entails the coordination of one of the two SPS courses. The candidate is expected to: lead weekly meetings and cooperate with faculty members, lecturers, and teaching facilitators, create, and organize (the distribution of) learning, teaching and assessment materials, and provide one or more lectures on content of their choice within the course curriculum. In addition, the coordinator is expected to contribute to the FDD’s relevant tasks.
Appointment and the range of responsibilities will depend on qualifications and intent. This position starts out as replacement teaching by February 2023, but with possible prospects of renewal afterwards.
