The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS) at Sabancı University is seeking applications for a full-time faculty position in the emerging field of AI-Driven Materials Science. The position is anticipated to start in the 2025-2026 academic year. Candidates with a strong background in leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning for materials design, discovery, and optimization are highly encouraged to apply. Expertise in developing AI frameworks to understand complex material properties and predictive modeling will be an advantage. Preferred academic ranks are at the Assistant Professor level, but applications at all ranks will also be considered based on academic qualifications and experience.
The Materials Science and Nano Engineering Program offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees and has well-established partnerships with Sabancı University’s Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SUNUM) and Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Research and Application Center (SU IMC).
Responsibilities
Teaching:
Candidates for this position must exhibit a strong dedication to education in Materials Science and the ability to teach foundational courses in Materials Science at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to develop and teach at least one specialized course focused on the applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning in materials science, enhancing the current curriculum within the Program.
Research:
Successful applicants should demonstrate a strong track record of scholarly research in the field of AI-driven materials science, with a focus on leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning to uncover novel material properties and optimize materials design. The ideal candidate will be skilled in developing and applying AI frameworks to analyze complex materials data and enhance predictive modeling. They will be expected to establish an independent, internationally recognized, and externally funded research program and build a robust network of international collaborations.
Service:
Apart from teaching and research, the successful candidate is expected to undertake service and citizenship roles and contribute to the operation and promotion of the University as well as the profession.
Qualifications sought:
The minimum qualification for the posted position is a doctorate degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Materials Physics, Materials Chemistry or a related field, followed by a productive postdoctoral research period at a recognized institution.
