The Foundations Development Directorate (FDD), the core-curriculum program at Sabancı University, is seeking a qualified Full-Time Visiting Instructor to teach and coordinate the mandatory freshman course IF 100: Computational Approaches to Problem Solving.
The position includes a one-year trial period, with the possibility of extension and promotion to a Full-Time Instructor role upon satisfactory completion of the first year’s performance requirements.
Course Overview
IF 100 introduces students to core computational thinking principles, including algorithm design, abstraction, decomposition, and pattern recognition. Students develop foundational programming skills using the beginner-friendly programming language Python, applying these skills to real-world problems across various disciplines. The curriculum includes lectures, interactive recitations, and hands-on assignments to guide students in designing efficient and correct algorithms, as well as evaluating solutions.
Position Overview
The Full-Time Visiting Instructor will play a crucial role in introducing students to the fundamentals of computational thinking and programming, providing them with the essential skills to design algorithms, solve problems, and apply programming concepts practically. In this capacity, the Instructor will collaborate closely with IF 100 course group and the assistants to deliver high-quality instruction, foster an interactive learning environment, and support student development, both in and out of the classroom. The Instructor is also expected to contribute to the various educational initiatives of the FDD, that is the core-curriculum program at Sabancı University.

Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging lectures that cover computational thinking and introductory programming topics, with an emphasis on practical application.
- Coordinate recitation sessions that deepen students' understanding of course material through hands-on activities and problem-solving.
- Develop and grade assignments, exams, and other assessments to evaluate student progress and comprehension.
- Develop new course materials, including slides, documents, and assessment questions, when required.
- Collaborate with assistants and students to ensure consistent delivery of the course content.
- Maintain office hours to assist students with course materials and assignments.
- Participate in course planning to improve outcomes and student engagement.
- Take part in and manage all organizational tasks, both academic and administrative, related to the course from the start to the end of the semester.
- Coordinate with the FDD on course-related activities.
- Contribute to the FDD’s educational initiatives and organizations.
Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or closely a related field.
- Strong knowledge in computational thinking, algorithm design, and programming with Python.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, ideally with experience in introductory computer science or programming courses preferred.
- Strong coordination skills and collaborative work approach.
- Excellent command of English and strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with students and colleagues.
