FAQ for Degree Students

• If you are a new student at Sabancı University, you should make your online “first application” for student residence permit after your university registration. You should also check your visa and duration of stay period and follow up the residence permit application procedure accordingly.
• If you are a current student at Sabancı University and have a valid residence permit, you should make your online “extension application” before 2 months to its expiry date.
• If you are a current student at Sabancı University and your residence permit has already expired, you should apply for extension within 10 days after your current residence permit expiry date (if you will apply for an extension after it is expired, you should select “first application” tab in the online system). Otherwise you should leave Turkey with a penalty due to not having an extension application. When you come back you should apply online “first application” for student residence permit.

Immigration Office send the residence permit cards to the address on your online application form. If you write Sabancı University’s address on the online application form, you can get your card from the Post Office on campus. If you stay off campus and want your card to be sent to your home address, you should write your home address on the online application form and submit a document which will show your home address. Otherwise you can mention Sabancı University’s address to deliver your residence permit card. If you are under 18 years old, you have to submit your accommodation document in your necessary documents file for residence permit. (dorm document, rental agreement on your name etc..)

• You have to go to the nearest police center as soon as possible and get a report about losing your card. Then you have to go to the Immigration Office with the report and your passport to apply to get a new residence permit card (You don’t need to get an appointment date before going there). Immigration Office officials will accept your application and will send your new card to the address you have mentioned.

• You can make a “transfer application” for student residence permit after your university registration. There is a tab for a “transfer application” on the Immigration Office online application system. If you have a short term residence permit before university registration and it is expired before university registration; you should make a “short term residence permit application”. When you get your short term residence permit card, you should make a “transfer application” for student residence permit. If you get any system error during the “transfer application”, you can make a “first application” for student residence permit.

• For new international students coming from another university in Turkey to Sabancı University; you have to apply for residence permit within 10 days after you leave your old university and have to get a document as a proof of leaving your old university.

• (For graduating student) For students who currently study at Sabancı University, in order to finish their graduation procedures and apply for further studies, Residence Permits ​​are issued starting from the university's estimated graduation date until the beginning of the next academic semester. (For instance; for someone who is supposed to graduate in June, residence permit would be valid until the end of September)

• (For exchange student, freezing the term, leaving university) You can stay in Turkey 10 days after you leave university or freeze the term with your valid residence permit. If you will stay more than 10 days after leaving university or freezing the term, you have to pay penalty in airport when you leave Turkey and also passport police may put a block on your passport due to stay without a valid residence permit. You can apply for a short term residence permit before your student residence permit expiry date and select "tourist permit" tab under short term pemit page.You can stay in Turkey with short term residence permit.But you have to wait the residence permit card before leaving Turkey.You can not to leave without short term residence permit card.
