Fall, Spring Special Student

Students currently enrolled in a higher education institution other than Sabancı University can participate in the courses offered by Sabancı University as "special students." To apply as a special student, the following conditions must be met:

• Being enrolled as a student in an undergraduate program at a higher education institution to take undergraduate-level courses,

• Being a student in a master's, doctoral, or proficiency in art program at a higher education institution to take graduate-level courses,

• Obtaining the approval of the relevant faculty or institute department chair at the enrolled university.


The acceptance of an application as a special student does not imply acceptance into any diploma program.

For students taking courses as special students at Sabancı University, upon request, a transcript showing the registered courses and the grades obtained in those courses will be provided.

Required Documents for Application:

1. Confirmation of Special Student Status from the Enrolled Institution: A formal document indicating approval from the faculty board for enrolled undergraduate students or from the department chair of the institute's main branch for enrolled postgraduate students, for the courses to be taken.

2.Application Form: An online form containing personal information, details of the intended courses, and a photograph of the applicant.

Prior to completing the application form, approval must be obtained from instructors (and additionally from the program coordinator for postgraduate courses).

Requests for approval should be sent via email to the relevant instructors, including the student's university transcript as an attachment.

Confirmation emails from the instructors should be added to the application form.

3. Transcript: It is the grade report to be obtained from the currently enrolled higher education institution.

4. Application Fee:The application fee must be paid according to the information provided in the email received after the completion of the application.

The application fee is a one-time payment for the relevant term and is non-refundable.

5. English Proficiency Exam Result:

  • Language Proficiency Certificate:For applicants studying in programs with Turkish as the language of instruction, it is a document indicating success in a nationally and/or internationally recognized foreign language exam accepted as equivalent by the university, at the level determined by the university. *
  • For applicants from institutions where the language of instruction is entirely English, a formal document prepared by the Student Resoueces department of the enrolled higher education institution is required. Preferably enclosed in a sealed envelope, this document specifies the official language of the program. If this information is already indicated on the transcript, an additional document is not required.
  • For applicants applying to non-English language programs at the postgraduate level, where the language of instruction is not entirely English, they must provide one of the documents specified in the postgraduate program application requirements.**

6. Student Certificate: It is the document obtained from the enrolled university indicating the student's status.

7. Course Status Certificate: It is an official document from the enrolled university indicating whether courses have been taken for the relevant term. This information can be provided without the need for a separate course status certificate if it is added to the student certificate by the relevant institution. The document (or student certificate) must explicitly state whether the candidate student is registered for courses during the term.

8. Fee Certificate (Applicable Only to Undergraduate Students): Undergraduate students who wish to take undergraduate courses and are registered at foundation university must have this document signed by the authorized units of their universities and submit it to Sabancı University.

9. Fees and Payments: 

In accordance with the amendment made to Article 22, Paragraph 4 of the Regulation on Amendments to the Regulation Regarding the Principles of Transfer between Associate and Undergraduate Programs, Double Major, Minor, and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer in Higher Education Institutions, the following practices apply to undergraduate students who will take courses under special student status in the Fall and Spring semesters. Postgraduate students are subject to fees per course.

  1. For undergraduate students registered at Foundation Universities:

• Students who are registered at their university for the applied term, do not have course registrations, and are either full-fee or discounted students, will have 80% of the tuition fee paid to their registered university transferred to Sabancı University (SU) where they are enrolled as special students. If the amount collected from the other institution is lower than the total fee per course determined for the relevant term at SU, the difference will be collected from the student, proportionate to the number of courses the student is registered for at SU.

• Students who have course registrations at their university for the applied term will pay a fee per course.

• Fully scholarship students will only pay a fee per course.

   2. For undergraduate students registered at state universities or those registered at universities abroad not listed in the ÖSYM guide will only pay a fee per course.

  3. For postgraduate students enrolled in postgraduate programs will pay a fee per course for postgraduate courses.

  4. Graduates of Sabancı University who are not enrolled in any diploma program at Sabancı University and are registered at a different university, meeting the conditions mentioned above, will receive a 50% discount on the special student tuition fee per course for courses offered in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Graduates can benefit from this discount for a maximum of 2 courses in the Fall and Spring semesters of the same academic year and a maximum of 1 course in the "Optional Summer School." The course applications of the graduates are evaluated within the framework of the program's quota and special conditions for the respective course.
