Abstract

This thesis focuses on the development of transition metal-doped IrO2 electrocatalysts and electrodes for the oxygen evolution reaction in membrane-based electrolyzers. The research aims to address the high costs and limited availability of IrO2 by doping it with transition metals, thereby enhancing its catalytic activity and stability. Synthesis methods of sol-gel for catalyst production and anodization for TiO2 nanotube growth on titanium mesh, were employed. The performance of the synthesized catalysts was evaluated through structural and electrochemical characterizations such as XRD, SEM, LSV, and EIS. The results demonstrated significant improvements in catalytic efficiency and stability, as well as successful TiO2 growth on titanium mesh. The performance of the transition metal-doped IrO2 and their interaction with nanotubular TiO2 coated titanium mesh were also assessed, highlighting the potential of these doped catalysts for sustainable hydrogen production in electrolyzers.
