A 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Silivri!

Dear Sabancı University Members,

Today, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Silivri, Istanbul, and was felt on our campus. Immediately following the tremor, a rapid assessment was conducted by the relevant units of our university.

It was observed that students residing in the dormitories and staff and students exiting the buildings gathered in front of the cafeteria. Conversations with them confirmed that the earthquake was felt, but individuals remained calm and composed.

In the residential (lodging) areas, only a few individuals were seen, all of whom appeared to be calm. During the ongoing April 23rd celebrations in the kindergarten garden, interviews with families present revealed that some did not even feel the tremor.

Our Health Center staff and dormitory supervisors were also consulted, and no health-related complaints were reported in connection with the earthquake. Furthermore, no structural damage was identified in any of our university buildings upon inspection.

We are closely monitoring the situation and maintaining all necessary precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. We kindly advise everyone to remain alert for possible aftershocks and to follow updates through our official communication channels.

We extend our best wishes to all.
