Dissertation Boot Camp starts tomorrow!
For whom?
Master’s and PhD students willing to make significant progress in their thesis or dissertation can join. This 3-day online writing/finishing your dissertation/thesis chapters activity is only for those who have already started writing their thesis proposal/chapters/dissertation and not suitable for those who are merely curious. Please consider attending only if you can commit to the full schedule and rules. DBC works best if you attend the whole time. Those of you defending soon are particularly welcome.
What is it?
This is a 3-day free writing boot camp; we use focused writing time to get big chunks of writing done. There will be brief instructions, participant group discussion, and other helpful activities to support you in your writing.
When?
4, 5, 6 December from 10:00 to 13:15.
How to attend?
Reply to this email (ac@sabanciuniv.edu) and provide your name, program, and degree level (MA, PhD) to receive the Zoom meeting link in turn. Note that once you participate, you are expected to commit to the full schedule so that the community energy is fully established and support uninterrupted.
Rules:
Participants should commit to the 3-day schedule fully, observing all the rules. The rules are available below.
Rule 1
Show up each day and on time.
Rule 2
Keep your cameras on.
Rule 3
Be alone, in a quiet room. Let those at home know that you are writing and should not be disturbed during this time—if possible.
Rule 4
Make your writing desk ready to be able to start writing. (Have your coffee, tea, water, snacks, books, notebooks, etc. on your desk—whatever you need to get you going.)
Rule 5
Silence your phone and keep it away from your writing desk.
Rule 6
Do not surf the internet, check emails, or follow social media during focused writing time. You can do these during breaks only.
Rule 7
Sleep well and early. Eat well.
Rule 8
Participate wholeheartedly and do not leave the room/writing desk unless you must.
Rule 9
Determine not to give up even if it feels unpleasant.
Rule 10
Do not judge your progress.
